Bucket-Wide Settings is a new feature of Runscope Radar allowing you to set configuration data that is common to all tests within a bucket in a single location. This includes Initial Variables (not covered here, learn more), Initial Scripts, email notifications, webhook callback URLs and 3rd-party analytics and notification integrations like PagerDuty, Slack and New Relic Insights.
If you're new to Runscope, Buckets are how you organize related data like API calls and tests. Every test belongs to a single bucket. Tests are typically grouped within buckets by app, project, customer or environment.
Configuring Bucket-Wide Settings
Once you've created more than one API test, head over to your Radar test overview page in your dashboard and select Bucket-Wide Settings from the left-hand sidebar. This page lists the available options for each of the settings areas mentioned above.
When viewing the settings pages for an individual test, you'll see the settings configured at the bucket-level as well. Additional email notifications, webhook callback URLs and 3rd-party service integrations can be specified on individual tests. Note that additional settings are additive; settings configured at bucket-level cannot be disabled for individual tests.
Getting Organized
We recommend creating Bucket-Wide Settings only for items that are truly universal across your tests. Creating a baseline set of notifications and integrations common to all tests will save you a lot of time configuring individual tests. When you need more functionality than your baseline, opt in to more configuration on a per-test basis.
Combined with Bucket-Wide Variables, these new settings options give you granular control over the configuration of your Radar API Monitoring setup. Not testing your APIs yet? Get started with Radar now, absolutely free.
